Panel discussion with the Göttingen OB candidates

    Next Monday, June 21, 2021, starting at 7:30 p.m., there will be a virtual discussion event with the candidates for the office of Lord Mayor of Göttingen. What do the candidates for the office of Lord Mayor of Göttingen think about the “City that creates knowledge”? What plans do they have for strengthening and securing Göttingen as a location for science? This is what the members of the Working Group Science/Universities and Göttingen Campus will ask the candidates and invite all interested parties to participate in the virtual discussion event. Pre-registration is not required.

    Discontinuation of the GWDG USENET service with the end of 30.06.2021

    At the end of June 30, 2021, the GWDG will discontinue its USENET service "news.gwdg.de". The USENET service originated in the late 1970s well before the World Wide Web (WWW) and was used for text-oriented technical discussions. For many years, however, the use of USENET has been in sharp decline, and discussions have shifted to forums on the WWW. Therefore, after decades, the GWDG will discontinue support of USENET.

    In the course of a technical restructuring, the name "news.gwdg.de" will be used in the future to provide operational reports and news from the GWDG.

    Due to a malfunction of the Trouble-Ticket-System GOTRS, tickets were unfortunately not delivered in the above mentioned period of time and could therefore not be processed promptly.     Computer Senses: Digital Exhibition of the University of Göttingen

    The recently opened digital exhibition “Computer Senses: How Magnetic Tape, Binoculars, Computer Mouse, and Punched Card Punch Change Our View of the Digital” uses exhibits from GWDG’s Computer Museum and the collection of historical objects at the Institute of Astrophysics at the University of Göttingen to show how machines, instruments, and devices shape our experience of the digital.
